The McMansion Next Door

I think the central point of this essay is to say how everything has design but something that is untouched are houses. It also talks about how houses are getting bigger and families are still staying about the same size and how whole nieghboorhoods are the same house over and over again. Some evidence used is it says that last years annual report for Pulte homes says that if you adjust for inflation, that houses of the same size and comparable features is the same price as it was in the 1970s. I would agree with the essay in that I agree that houses are seeing less design and just getting bigger and bigger and that people would pay more up front to say they got a mansion.

Motocross Racing at Miliken

So this past weekend I had a motocross race at Miliken which is located S. of Fort Collins. We got there the Saturday for practice and we camped out that night for the race the next morning. 6:00am rolled around and it was time to get up and go for a run and get warm and eat a light breakfast. After that I got my gear on and went out for practice and figured out the fast lines and started to mentally prepare. A couple hours went by until it was time for my class to race which is 250 C. So there I was sitting on the starting gate waiting for the gate to drop. The 1 min warning was shown to us and then the 1 min board was turned sideways indicating 30sec. 40 of us were off. We all came flying into the first corner banging bars and fighting for position. As soon as I realized it I was 5th and could see the leader only a couple bikes in front of me. I started sweating and breathing hard and freaking out be cause I was passing guys and battling with them. It was the last lap and I was third and second place fell down and I passed first on the hair-pin corner. I came flying through the last corner and realized I had won my class and I was full of excitement and happiness.

Desciption

As I look around and look at my surroundings I see a lot of bland and no excitement. I look at white walls and brown wood doors and a lot of human made light and a long hallway that seems to keep going. I see forest green trash cans and recycle bins and grey carpet with spots of light brown and maroon mixed in. I watch lots of people walking by either going to or coming from class. People carrying loads of books. People also carrying food and drinks. To the left of me is a long set of stairs that go to the second level. As I look at the ceiling I notice hundreds and thousands of little black dots in the ceiling tiles. I also notice it is cold and not very comfortable, but why should it be?

Piercings and Tattos

Being a person who has a tatto I think that if you are going to get one you have to think about it for awhile because things look different with time. I think it also needs to have a lot of meaning to you personally. I would have to say getting one for a fashion statement is idiodic and stupid its kinda being like well he has that shirt so Im going to one too. I would also say that getting any name except for yours is also a bad reason for a tatto. I think the only reason you should get one is because it has a lot of meaning to you in a speacial way. Or another good reason is if it is what your culture is about I thought about my tatto for a long time and made sure I would want it on my body for ever and I made sure it was of great importance to me. And Im definatley happy with it.

I dont have any Piercings, but I think they are different that tattos because you can remove them if you want to. I would say that piercings for fashion is a good reason or if it has some kind of meaning to you.

The Dunes

So this past weekend about 20 people including myself went to the sand dunes in Walden to ride our dirt bikes and do some trail riding. We got there around 6pm and it was pretty cold when we got there. So my friend Jared and I decided we were going to take out dirt bikes off the truck and ride around in the dark to look for a place to camp even though it was freezing. So we did this for about an hour until we found a place that looked good. So we set up all of our stuff a.k.a we got drunk. This drinking went on for a couple of hours including multiple games of "Beer Pong" and "Asshole." The next morning we woke up to the sound of 4-wheelers and dirt bikes so it was a wonderful morning in my eyes. We cooked some delicious breakfast and then got all of our gear on and headed out to do some riding. We spent a lot of our time looking for some other people that at the time we didn't know were up there yet. So we rode for about 6 hours and we finally found the people we were looking for because they basically found us. So the drinking and just being belligerent started all over again. We needed wood so 4 of us went to go get some fire wood which is really fun drunk. We ended up bringing brought back way to much but we planned on using it all. We ate a bunch of food and kept on drinking and in doing this we all thought it would be fun to go drive on the dunes which let me tell you was a blast. This went on for a long time until we all passed out because we couldn't see straight anymore. We all woke with a hell of a hangover and we all sat around waiting for someone to say "lets pack up and leave." That finally came and it was a relief to me because I wanted to get the hell out of there. So we packed up and made the 100 mile treck back to Fort Collins. It was a good trip.

Compose #1

I agree with Bordo in that we are constantly bombarded with images of the human body and how it should look and what beauty is. I would have to say that everyone encounters images of what beauty should be and what is should look like. Personally I encounter it on a daily basis. I encounter it on the way to school in the car and I encounter it at school. I also encounter it when watching t.v. or when reading magazines.
I think that it does distort or sense of self. I have noticed people are becoming more shallow and being interested in what their friends think is beauty or what magazines say is beauty. I think that everyone has their own set guidelines of what beauty is and what it looks like and I think that they should follow what they think or believe is beauty and I do think that it is being distorted by media in a negative way. I have seen first hand people not persue someone they like because of what criticism they may get from their friends. I also have been asked "do you think she is hot" and I honestly don't get why they need my approval of a girl.

I thought that John McCain's acceptance speech was boring and bland compared to Obama's speech. McCain did not really speak like Obama spoke. Obama seemed to get everyone including myself excited for him to become our President. McCain didn't seem like he meant what he was saying, it seemed like he wasn't being real. McCain basically said that he will bring change to Washington and that he will fight for the middle class working family. I think his main point was that he wants to make the country better and also that he cares very much for this country. After watching his speech i would have to say it was ineffective because it did not change my view or my opinion about him.

Obama's Speech

On August 28, 2008 history was made. Barack Obama is the first African-American to accept the Democratic Party's nomination for President of the United States of America. Obama's speech seemed to have several purposes one main point was warn all Americans that our nation is at a critical point. Every single citizen needs to make a choice on how our country should proceed. Obama said that we have had enough of the same old Bush McCain agenda. Other purposes of the speech were to paint a picture of Republicans as those who want to give more and more to the rich hoping that it will "trickle down" to the rest of us. By painting this picture of the Republicans, Obama was able to persuade Americans that we deserve better and we can get better. His big theme and push has been change. His intended effect was to urge Americans to finally discard all the problems in America and make life better for generations to come.
